Carmen

Christmas greetings

Drawings made by pupils from our school to wish you happy celebrations

On Thursday afternoon Dec 15, we sang Christmas carols at school. This tradition
has been brought to Martinique by settlers from Brittany and Normandy.
One of the pupils' father was the lead singer.

Everywhere we sing 'Christmas carols' we take this song book.

Santa Claus was one of the pupils, Jeremy.
Next to him, a teacher of history and geography, Mrs Beatrice De Chavigny

Martinique Chef Festival

Kyricka

This year's 1st edition of the festival was held on the 14th to the 20th of November.

This annual event made Martinique the main French kitchen in the caribbean and gave a dynamic vision of Gastronomy in Martinique. Their precise objectives were to present the chefs of all ages and of all stars, the products of quality of the Caribbean, but mainly Martinique, and their ''know - how'' to cook in such a diverse kitchen.

I was extremely taken aback by Julia SEDEFDJIAN, a 21-year-old starred chef.

In 2012, Julia was yet to turn 18, but she had already secured her job at ''Fables de la Fontaine'', which is located in Paris's 7th district. This chic restaurant had made its reputation for the way they prepared their fish. She didn't have much of an option because she wanted to be an establishment with a good reputation and one that was starred. Julia was quickly accepted thanks to her Gold Medal in a Regional Competition, making her one of the best.
Born in December 1994, in 2015 she turns 20 and she now replaces Anthony David and therefore holds the temporary title of being a starred chef. Her boss is so delighted that on the 1st of February, in the middle of a busy kitchen, he comes down the staircase with a bouquet of flowers for Julia saying " I'm in front of the youngest starred chef of France.

From November 14 to 20 the Martinique Chef Festival took place. This year the special guest was Babette de Rozière, a French TV host from Guadeloupe. She created the gastronomy show of the overseas in Paris and she's become an ambassador of Caribbean gastronomy.
There were a lot of other great chefs like Marcel Ravin and Jean-Charles Bredas who are from Martinique and Stephano Meschini, Julia Sedefdjian, Hermance Cabro, Claire Veneil, Denny Imbroisi etc...
During the week there were many dinners and tasting but also some conferences about gastronomy.

Martinique chef festival is a main event  for our island.
Its goal is to make Martinique the 1st gastronomic destination of the Caribbean and to present some chefs, the quality products and the know-how of Martinique. This festival started on  Nov 14th and ended on Nov 20th.

I have chosen to talk to you about a chef who attended that festival : his name is Pascal Favre d'Anne.

He is from Savoie and he has started cooking at Marc Veyrat's restaurant in Annecy, then at the Embassy of France in Bogota.

In September 2006, Pascal Favre d'Anne and his wife Mathilde decided to open their own restaurant in Angers, the "Favre d'Anne".

In 2008, he was elected 'Younger Talent 2008' in the Gault et Millau guide. He obtained his 1st star in the Michelin guide and is elected 'Younger Chef of the Year' by the  Pudlo guide. Always wearing his green jacket, he is an artist and a craftsman.

It's AIDS Day today

The school nurse and volunteers from different classes sensitised us to the HIV infection. We wore red instead of our usual uniform to match AIDS colour, just for that day.
In France, today also is the day reserved for communicating around genetic diseases and collecting money for research. The pupils who took care of it wore yellow T-shirts. They organised a 'téléthon' with  murals in the hall for this occasion.

Our favourite hotels

'Pierre et Vacances' is located is Saint-Luce next to a beautifully isolated beach. The hotel has an outside restaurant which is covered by a huge, transparent, plastic housing. Every Saturday evening, there is a delicious, all-you-can-eat buffet and it is accompanied by a pool party and dance sessions with diverse groups.
I'm telling you all this because I went to this hotel to celebrate the birthday of one of my close friends. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and inviting and we had a blast in the lazy pool.
